With remote teledentistry, our aligners let you straighten your teeth on your schedule, from the comfort of your own home. You’ll be assigned an Australian registered dentist or orthodontist. He or she will have regular virtual check-ins with you through your customer account, and monitor your progress remotely.

If you choose to visit a SmileShop, a technician will scan your teeth, which takes about 30 minutes.
A dentist or orthodontist will remotely approve your program, and a 3-D printer will use your scans to create 24 custom-made tray aligners, which are sent to you, along with detailed instructions about when to switch them out. The company will email you a preview of how your smile will transform over the course of your treatment.
If you choose the online option, the company will send you an at-home impression kit, which includes instructions and videos about how to take images of the inside of your mouth and make a dental impression using the quick-hardening material provided. You email back the images and mail back the mold, and SmileDirectClub forwards all this to one of its 225 participating dental professionals, who will analyze the images and mold before creating a customized treatment plan. The company then sends you custom-made aligners.
Your total treatment time will likely be around six months. You’ll wear each aligner for a week or two before moving on to the next one (the timing is all carefully spelled out in the personalized instructions). Aligners are intended to be worn all day and night but can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, and cleaning your aligners. They aren’t usually painful, but expect to feel a little tightness and discomfort for the first few days after you switch to a new set.
You have the option of sending pictures to SmileDirectClub every 90 days. These images will be analyzed by a dental professional to monitor your progress. This is intended to serve as a virtual checkup, and you’re encouraged to participate, to help you stay on track.
