The Hypnos Balmoral Medium is an outstanding mattress that holds the highest levels of quality and craftsmanship. It is Australian made and is simply one of the best mattresses on the market.
The Hypnos Balmoral range can be purchased through the Beds n Dreams website or at any of their 30 plus stores Australia-wide. Delivery costs will depend on your location, but a typical delivery cost to a metropolitan area is $80.
This version forms the medium feel version of the Balmoral range that also includes a firm version and a plush version. This mattress can also be specially ordered with different firmness levels on each side (e.g. firm on one side and medium on the other).
From the outside, the Hypnos Balmoral Medium gives off a clear message that being one of luxury and opulence. The top cover of the Hypnos Balmoral Medium starts with handcrafted natural cashmere and premium fabrics. This cover feels breathable, durable, and expensive.
Underneath this top cover lies layers of 100% natural latex, and gel infused memory foam. This comfort layer feels divine and is one of the reasons why this mattress took out Australia’s ‘Best Luxury Mattress’ award in 2022. It absorbs body weight evenly and offers lovely pressure relief.
The mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, its suitability will vary between individuals.

One of the most defining features of the Hypnos Balmoral Medium is its 5 zone pocket spring system that also contains a second layer of mini coils. This support structure feels incredibly strong and robust and will easily accommodate people of all sizes. It offers supreme back support and has a total spring count of 2500 (Queen size), far more than the average pocket spring system of around 700.
The Hypnos Balmoral Medium responds nicely to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness as ‘optimal’. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
As you have probably realised by now, the overall build quality of this mattress is exceptional. Edge support is excellent and partner disturbance is very minimal. The mattress feels sturdy and robust, and has a 15 year warranty.
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Hypnos Balmoral Medium to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
The Hypnos Balmoral can be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base, but it must be specially ordered for this purpose. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
